I was pretty pleased overall with how I played and how I handled myself. I kept staying focused on the hands that I was playing and not the past. As a poker player, I need to fix what errors I may have made in my game, but I also need to forget hands. I have said this before, but a poker player needs to be like a closer in baseball, you have to have a short memory. You may blow the save one day, but the next day you are out there again trying to get a save, you can’t think back about those poor pitches that cost your team a win. You see what the error was (if there was an error), fix it, and then move on and don’t dwell. So I am pretty pleased with myself in that respect.
Here is a plot of session, very swongy, lolz!
I will review my hands later in this post, but basically I ran pretty poorly today. PokerEV shows this below:
My all in luck was trash. This also does not include coolers, like running running TPTK against shorts stacks who twice made sets with 44. I also QQ lose to a short stack with AA, 100BB preflop all in with AK against a known light 3-bettor. He pushes with QQ, which I think is kinda meh, against my UTG 4-bet. My range for 4-betting UTG is going to AA, KK, AK, maybe QQ, villain dependent. But whatever, it is a flop and I lose it, next time I might win it, not a cooler, just the other side of variance. And I ran KK into AK preflop versus a shortie and lost. I will make the note that I feel very comfortable with being a little looser preflop with 3-betting and whatnot. Gambling it up a bit with some hands I may not have before. The flip side is that I had some good luck as far as morons as well. I had someone 5-bet shove on me with 88 when I held AA. I 4-bet from UTG against a 3-bettor and a cold caller. The cold caller pushes after the initial 3-bettor folds. What is he thinking?!?! Those gifts won’t happen all the time. Check out this graph below:
The thing that I like about the graph above is something I am working on currently. That green line of total profits needs to be above my showdown winnings, or at least very close to it. I know this is a small sample size, but I think it is a good thing that it was higher. This means I made a profit in my hands that did not go to showdown. This in the past has been a big leak for me, I think. So this is a good sign that I am showing some improvement. I don’t want to rely on solely having a better hand to win a pot, I would like to win money when I don’t get to a showdown as well. Some hands for review.
Standard flip. I do like this play, because villain is a known light 3-bettor. I did not think he could advance without AA or KK. SO I think the 4-bet here is a good play, because his 3-bet range is most likely 1010+, AQ+, especially since he was a bit on tilt.
I know I am trying harder to find spots for some more thin value, but I think this might be a spot where I should just check the river. I had a sneaking suspicion he had a 7 here, and the A does not really help me here. I think this river bet was a mistake, and I think that more often than not, it folds out most hands I beat.
My jaw dropped when villain tabled his hand here. Another lost flipament.
I am not sure if this flop bet should be made. I guess there is no way I am getting away, because I would be getting roughly 2:1 to call and if villain has 1 pair, less than kings, then I have 22% equity. Throw in some AQ and such and I can’t fold I do not think if he bets, so I guess betting this flop, given stack sizes and all, is mandatory.
Plan foiled by the river! This villain lovedto float and I planned on punishing him here. He had done it several times already to me, which is why I checked the turn. I had figured he would also bet out the river if it was a blank (interesting he checked here on this river with position). So my plan was to basically C/R all in on the river if it was something lower than a king and did not pair the board. If it did pair the board, I probably go for the C/C on the river. I think my plan here for how to go about this hand was a good plan and this time, I happened to get unlucky. But I am happy with the way I played the hand. This also happened to be the last hand of the session, lol.
I did make a BI today over roughly 1,100 hands, so that is key. But overall I feel like i played a good game and made some strong plays. I also made some C/Rs against regular c-bettors on rag flops when the situation came up, which I found to be quite effective. I plan on logging many hands tomorrow at Vegas, and it most likely will be my last day there. I was told I should have my rakeback account all set up and ready to go tomorrow sometime, so that is good. Most of my bankroll is in my epassporte account, so I am ready to transfer funds and make a deposit into Full Tilt! Looking forward to going back, let me tell you!
